Be Still and Know That I am God .

 Hi Community, 

We are on the second principle of returning to love - the light that is in you . A certain amount of desperation is necessary before we are ready for God. 

Personally , I have never been religious nor a church goer. By default,  my family is Christian and every now and then I have experienced my mother’s faith but on a personal level,  I had never been prompted or guided to seek God on my own.  It has always been implied but never personal. I have been delivered, I have given my life to Christ but even then I didn’t know what that meant. My religious journey, has always been a guilt thing , an OMG what if hell is actually real ? OMG I feel bad for some decision I made? OMG let me just show off as remorseful so I don’t end up burning somewhere - a conscience clearing attempt at redemption. It is sad but I appreciate the experience. You know,  they were not trying to be cheeky when they said experience is the best teacher. 

Marianne writes, ‘Until your knees finally hit the floor, you are just playing at life, and on some level you are scared because you know you are just playing. The moment of surrender is not when life is over. It is when it begins.' Bo go dube botshelo o bake.  (Translation : Just wait. )

Life is truly a humbling experience. For many people, things have to get really bad before there is a shift. When you are at your lowest, when the walls cave in, when you can’t breathe on your own anymore and  when it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, only then are we fully awakened. Only then, do you truly recognise that there are powers in the universe bigger than you are, that can do for you what you cannot do for yourself. All of a sudden you are not too proud to ask for help. This is what it means to surrender to God. 

You need to understand that, if love and light exist in you and God is love then You are in God. The God and change we are looking for is part of us, it is inside our heart and head. Failure, regression, sadness and change are part of the human experience. Bathong ! You cannot avoid them , but you can control your reaction to them. Your stability rests on something more enduring than your current circumstances, something permanent, something strong - God , the love within you. Whether you decide to follow him in discipleship (religion) or think with love (spirituality) , it is entirely up to you but it is the same thing. 

As much as I believe love is the only real thing, it will not conquer all but it will set all things right. It is not comforting when we think of God or love as something outside ourselves, we were created in his image, making us extensions of his love. Affirm love in any situation to actualise the power of God. ‘Fear is to love , what darkness is to light, a terrible absence of what we need to survive.’ 

The problem is that we have strayed away from God and wandered from love. But as we come into ourselves and experience the gift of life,  we learn that only LOVE is real. Everything else is an illusion. Remember this and you will be at peace.  The depression, the crazy, the paranoia and trauma is all imagined. Not to say it cannot exist but it is not your ultimate reality and it will never replace the truth of who you are, that’s why we  transcend and return back to ourselves. We eventually return to what is real - love. 

The opposite of love is fear but all that is encompassing can have no opposite, affirming the illusion that is fear. There is a worship song close to my heart by Benjamin Dube and the Praise Worshipers - Bow and Worship that really speaks to this and goes something like, 

‘We thank you , Oh God . For you are in this place and we are able to experience your presence. For you  are a great God. You are the substance of all human ventures. You are all wise and You are all knowing, all understanding. You can do anything and everything we cannot do. You are everything good, that we would like to be. You are omnipotent, all powerful , all patient , all knowing, omni-present, and  everywhere.... We bow before your throne, not because we do not have any other God to bow before but because we tried you and found you to be worthy of the praise. '

Next time you are on your knees surrendering to God , stay there. Stay in the realm of answers, stay in the confides of love and remain in truth. 

Be still and know that he is God. - Psalms 46:10.
